Jennifer Hong
Jenny is working towards her Ph.D. in BioE and joined the group in Spring 2005 (she entered the program in Spring 2004). She has a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University. Jenny's research is in collaboration with the group of Dr. Michael Gaitan at NIST. She is studying the preparation of "nanogels" using liposomes as a template, and her work has been published in Langmuir.

Rakesh Kumar
Rakesh is working on his Ph.D. in ChBE and joined the group in Fall 2004. He did his B.S. in ChemE at IIT-Kharagpur in India and then spent a year doing research at the National Chemical Labs in Pune. Rakesh's research is on light and temperature-responsive fluids based on molecular self-assembly and has resulted in papers in JACS and Langmuir. For his research, Rakesh received the Wylie Fellowship for Fall 2008 and also earned 3rd place at the Grad Student Conference (GRID) at UMD.

Hee-Young Lee
Hee-Young is working towards his Ph.D. in ChBE and joined the group in Fall 2004. He earned his B.S. in ChemE from Yonsei University in Korea. Hee-Young's research seeks to understand the self-assembly of surfactants, lipids and biomolecules into structures such as tubules and fibrillar networks. He has co-authored a paper in JACS.

Matthew Dowling
Matt is pursuing his Ph.D. in BioE and joined UMD in Fall 2005. He received a B.S. in ChemE from Notre Dame. Matt is the recipient of the Fischell Fellowship in BioE and was an invited speaker at the BioE dept. innaugration in Dec 2005. His research focuses on new materials for drug delivery and wound healing and is in collaboration with the UM Pharmacy and Medical Schools. Matt is also the CEO of Remedium Technologies, a startup company formed to commercialize his discoveries. Recently, his research on wound dressings has been featured in a news segment on WJZ-TV.

Peter Thomas
Peter is pursuing his Ph.D. in BioE and joined our group in Fall 2005. He earned his B.S. in ChemE from U. Florida, following which he spent a year doing research at NIH. Peter's research is a collaboration with the group of Dr. Anne Plant at NIST and focuses on the development of polymer-based sensors for studying biological cell responses within microfluidic devices.

Oluwatosin Ogunsola
Tosin joined the group in Dec 2005 after completing her Ph.D in ChemE at UMD working with Prof. Sheryl Ehrman on aerosol nanoparticles. She has a B.S. in ChemE from North Carolina State University. Tosin's research is on the ability of vesicles to penetrate through skin and thereby deliver drugs or cosmetics. She is being co-advised by Dr. Bob Bronaugh of the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, FDA.
